Location Assistant, prop maker/buyer.
Series 4 of Bizarre ER - a BBC3 medical observational documentary - is coming out in April 2011. I assisted the Producer/Directors in preparing for and shooting the retrospective stories; going on shoots, brainstorming imaginative ways to communicate complex and graphic injuries and surgical procedures, prop making, and other strange tasks. If the stories were captions on the Jeremy Kyle show, they'd go something like this:
"I was crushed by a dolphin."
"I fell 60 metres off a rock face."
"I impaled myself on my own sculpture."
"I got the bubonic plague from a rat flea."
And so on. The props I made included a full plague doctor costume, a full set of colourful felt body organs, a loony toons comic TNT bomb, a full size Watchman roadside camera, and a polar bear claw.
I got to meet some incredibly inspiring people who almost met their ends in extraordinary circumstances, and therefore had a crystal clear perspective on life. Hearing their stories first hand was a rare privilege, for which I'm truly thankful.
